Adolf Eichmann: downfall

Lothar Hermann was also instrumental in exposing Eichmann's identity;
he was a half-Jewish German who had emigrated to Argentina in 1938.

His daughter Sylvia began dating a man named Klaus Eichmann in 1956 who boasted about his father's Nazi exploits.

In the end, it was not others who found out but rather it was due to his son's boasting which led to other's suspicious and ultimately his capture.

furthermore, he took the monies from them.

From here, we learn that we did what is being told and shut out our mouth.

We Owe God A Death

“By my troth, I care not; a man can die but once; we owe God a death and let it go which way it will he that dies this year is quit for the next”

― William ShakespeareHenry IV, Part 2

Appleyard ponders the cultural impact of extended lifespans:
Ultimately, the pursuit of life extension or medical immortality is a continuation of the ancient pursuit of the conquest of death, either by giving it meaning or by survival in this life or some other. It is the scientific version of the oldest human aspiration, which is either to evade oblivion or to embrace it with the consolatory knowledge that one's life has acquired significance.
Shakespeare, as usual, found the single exact word to capture what is at stake here. The word is 'owe'. Feeble in Henry V says 'we owe God a death'. For Feeble, to be born is to be indebted. Our death settles the account. This feels like a profoundly true statement

time machine

yes, indeed we have lost one, unexpectedly.
we have long anticipated this kind of thing and we have to accept the truth that it is like this.
people will not change until they changed themselves.

The whole incident actually changed me completely. I was no more happy-go-lucky after that.

Fifteen years of a life moving in and out of court is not funny. I lost some of my best friends in the process.

“But you learn and you do things more carefully after something like that.

At the same time, you tend to be more sensitive and aware to anticipate potential conflicts and avoid them.”

quiet eye

If anyone knows how to grab a victory from the jaws of defeat, it’s Serena Williams. Just consider her semi-final against Kim Clijsters at the 2003 Australian Open. At 5-2 down in the final set, she was within a hair’s breadth of losing her place in the tournament. But rather than slipping into despair, she saved two match points before winning the next five games. Somehow, each serve and each return landed just where she wanted them to – and she would ultimately go on to win the whole tournament.
A single such feat would be an exceptional occurrence in any career, but Williams has since made similarly breath-taking comebacks at the Australian Open in 2005at Wimbledon in 2009, and at the China Open in 2014, managing to pull back even when her opponents are serving a match point. In each case, the extreme pressure, rather than causing her to crumble, only seemed to sharpen her concentration.

The so-called ‘quiet eye’ may explain why elite athletes can maintain their focus even under high pressure
